The Ruger GP100 revolver is a double action firearm that is specifically designed for heavy Magnum cartridges. It shares many features with the well-known Ruger Redhawk and Security Six revolvers. It is the first of a completely new breed of Ruger double action revolvers. The one-of-a-kind frame extension allows for the use of full wrap-around style grips in any desired configuration. This feature reduces overall weight while also contributing to a desirable muzzle heaviness for recoil control. The GP100 revolver’s crane and cylinder assembly locks directly into the frame, both at the rear of the cylinder and at the front of the crane. The ejector rod only serves as an ejector and does not rotate with the cylinder.

All of this mechanism is easily removable without tools and disassembles into a small number of subassemblies for inspection and cleaning, along with the cylinder/crane group.
